Justen Smith has
worked in the livestock industry his entire life. He grew up on a beef cattle
and sheep ranch in the high mountains of central Utah and continued his
experience with livestock and agriculture by obtaining university undergraduate
and graduate degrees in Animal Science and International Agricultural
Development.
Justen has taken his knowledge and experience across the globe
completing over 20 long term and short term international assignments in the
last 15 years. His international experiences have varied included serving as
Director of a livestock development project for 3 years in Armenia with the
United States Department of Agriculture to helping implement and expand the
first cattle and sheep feedlots in Iraq for the USAID funded Inma project.
When not working
internationally, Justen maintains a tenured position as an Associate Professor
and Animal Science Specialist in Agricultural Extension and Director of a
County Extension Department for Utah State University. Justen has published many
peer reviewed journal articles, abstracts, and technical reports on research
and development projects he has worked on. He has given presentations on his
work across the United States and dozens of countries.
When not working, Justen
can be found hiking and exploring the beautiful Rocky Mountain wilderness of
Utah, Idaho, and Colorado with his wife and children as well as working on the
family cattle ranch.
